People guess. Somebody asks what a drive up north will cost, or how much each person should chip in, and the honest answer needs the car’s fuel efficiency, the pump price, the distance and every toll plaza on the way. Nobody works that out in their head, so the number gets made up.

The first version

The 2023 app was one screen. You typed in the distance, your car’s km/L, the petrol price and the tolls, and it gave you the total. It worked for any car on any road because every number came from you. That was also the catch: you had to know every number.

What 2.0 fills in

TranspoPh 2.0 fills in what it can and leaves the rest to you.

• Fuel price. This week’s figure from the Department of Energy’s Metro Manila price monitoring, matched to your vehicle’s fuel. Type your own if your station charges something else.
• Tolls. Pick where you get on and off, and the fare for your vehicle class comes from the published toll matrices of 13 expressways, NLEX and SLEX through to CCLEX in Cebu.
• Fuel efficiency. Start typing your car’s model and it suggests a km/L from DOE fuel economy tests, makers’ figures and road tests, and tells you which one it used.
• Distance. Plan the route on a map with a start, stops and a destination, or just type the kilometres.

Then it splits the total between everyone in the car. A round trip doubles the fuel and tolls but not the parking or the meal, because you only pay for lunch once.

Trips save on the phone, the breakdown shares as a picture, and every trip exports as a CSV for anyone claiming travel expenses at work. It’s in English and Tagalog, and it works offline once the week’s prices have loaded.

Every number shows where it came from

An estimate you can’t check is just a guess with decimals. So each figure in the breakdown names its source, whether that’s the DOE, a toll matrix or you, and you can change any of them. Pump prices still vary from station to station, and the app says so.

What it doesn’t do

No account, no ads and no tracking analytics. Trips stay on your phone. The app only goes online for fuel prices, toll rates and, when you plan a route, directions from OpenRouteService and map images from MapTiler. The privacy policy has the details.
